Tesla Europe recently reported that the Model Y in Iceland broke a record that had stood for 35 years. Within the first six months of 2023, the Tesla Model Y overtook all other vehicles in sales. Over the past few decades, Iceland has had a preference for Toyota automobiles. But Tesla has shook up Iceland's auto industry and received a ton of local support as a result of the Model Y and the Model 3.

For those purchasing their first electric vehicle, the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are now popular options. This may help to explain why Iceland and other nations just starting their electric vehicle journeys have embraced the Tesla brand so strongly. Tesla is a well-known brand in part because of its price tag, quick charging times, ingenious features, and Supercharger Network.

As a result of outselling the Ford Ranger truck, the Tesla Model Y rose to the position of second best-selling vehicle in Australia. Following the Toyota Hi-Lux ute, which generated sales of 6,142 units during the second quarter of 2023, Tesla sold about 5,560 Model Y vehicles.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) made up 8.8% of the auto market's sales in June, according to the Federated Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) of Australia. 11,042 BEVs were purchased last month in Australia. For the first half of 2023, 7.4% of all new vehicle sales were BEVs.

Also dominating the Chinese auto market is the Tesla Model Y. The raw new energy vehicle (NEV) sales figure for BYD was surpassed by the Model Y last month. In China and the EV industry at large, BYD is a powerful adversary.

And now, let’s take a look at what makes the Tesla Model Y outstanding among buyers.

The Tesla Model Y can be compared to a Tesla Model 3 that has received a growth hormone injection to offer it a higher driving position and additional interior space.

Tesla is well aware that its entry-level saloon isn't suitable for everyone, despite the fact that the "3" is a terrific vehicle. For example, its small boot opening is not ideal for families, and the fact that it is not an SUV is an immediate turnoff for many consumers.

The Model Y enters the picture here. In the brand's lineup of electric SUVs, it is placed below the Tesla Model X and lacks the 'falcon' doors found in that vehicle. Although a seven-seater option is available, all current versions sold in the UK now have five seats. Depending on how essential acceleration and range are to you, there are three models available: RWD, Long Range, and Performance.

The Audi Q4 e-tron, BMW iX1, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Genesis GV60, and Kia EV6 are the Model Y's main competitors in the electric SUV segment; nevertheless, the Model Y's price is starting to approach that of the VW ID Buzz. It can reportedly last longer between charges than all those alternatives, and you can charge it up faster at one of the many Tesla Superchargers scattered throughout the UK.
