Travel tips for Trolltunga and hiking in Norway!

1)Transport
Most people will use Odda as a base and either rent a car or take a 20min bus ride to the foot of Trolltunga. If you are driving up,please note that you have to pay money to park your car at the foot of the hill. Please make car rental/transport bookings in advance!

2)Accomodation
If you are an experienced hiker, you can choose to pitch a tent on the mountain itself, but i would definitely NOT recommend it for most people. You can book accommodations in Odda, but space is very limited so please book way in advance!

3) Clothing
Depending on the season, please bring/wear multiple layers of clothes, instead of wearing one t-shirt and a very thick coat. This is because, you tend to generate a lot of heat while climbing the mountain, and the weather conditions can change rapidly. Thus, it would be good if you can remove layers of clothes as required. Water proofing would be good, in case the weather turns nasty. I would recommend hiking boots for extra protection for your feet

4) The Hike
The hike will take around 12 hours, it is not very technical and is just very long. I would recommend bringing a bottle of water and some snack bars . You can refill your water nearer to the top of the mountain at small waterfalls along the way. The first and last 2km is the toughest due to the sheer amount of mud that will bog you down. Please plan enough time for the hike, as the hike will get VERY dangerous once night falls. We had to help a stranded hiker who was alone and could not see.Not a good position to be in, especially if you are alone.

5) General Tips
Try to stick together with your friends and help each other out,it is a long climb and very tiring for most people. There will probably be a queue to take the epic picture on the troll's tongue at the top. The queue will be longer during days with clear weather. Please factor in time to queue and take pictures. There are basic washing facilities to wash your boots, but showering facilities may be limited (and disgusting). If you are driving, do note that the road from Odda to the foot of Trolltunga is very narrow and has a lot of bends, with NO LIGHTS at night.

So this video will be about our trip to Trolltunga in Norway. If you want more travel tips,, you can look in the description box below. Trolltunga is a very popular hiking destination for many tourists. You may have even seen iconoic photos of the troll’s tongue on the internet. However, many people who have travelled to trolltunga were unable to take the perfect picture. This can be due to multiple reasons. Firstly, if the weather conditions are very bad, for example, if there is heavy rain or even hail, the hiking route may be closed off altogether. Hence, it is very important for you to plan ahead and check the weather forecast before arriving at trolltunga. Next, even if you make it to the top, the weather conditions may be foggy as you can see here in this video, and hence may not be able to take nice pictures. You can choose to wait for the fog to clear, but sometimes luck may not be on your side. In good weather, my friend actually waieted 3 hours in a queue just to take the picture, and even got sunburns as a result. That's why it is important for you to manage your expectations and enjoy the whole experience on the way up and down the mountain, instead of just anticipating the picture at the troll’s tongue.
