Beinn na h-Uamha in Morvern is a local hill for me. It's not the biggest mountain at just 465m but what it lacks in height it makes up for in character. Beinn na h-Uamha is Gaelic for Mountain of the Cave and sure enough there is a cave, albeit a small one, incongruously positioned on a broad, grassy slope near the summit ridge. It's a short but steep hike to the cave and the summit.
The day started with heavy frost in the glen but I was soon up in the sunshine, passing an old 18th century ruined homestead. Further up is the cave - the rocky outcrop that the cave is part of is sandstone and above it is a layer of basaltic lavas which make up the summit plateau. There's a spectacular cliff running the length of the plateau on the north side. It's a hill of real character with fantastic views along the west coast to the hills of Ardnamurchan, Rum and Skye.
Beinn na h-Uamha is also part of the Rahoy Hills Reserve managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust – it's renowned for its arctic-alpine flora. Of course there was nothing in flower when I was there on a cold November day. Check out the Scottish Wildlife Trust Rahoy Hills Reserve page here https://tinyurl.com/ycyk3s9w
The music for this film is particularly special to me, and especially apt, because it was composed by a good friend of mine who also happens to be the warden of the reserve. The tracks are: Until the End & A Sparrowhawk Catches a Jay in the Forest by Notes from your Wild Edges https://tinyurl.com/3sdb9der,

Remember that hiking and mountain climbing can be dangerous. The videos on my channel are for entertainment only (other than where specified). Always prepare well and be willing to abandon a trip if it becomes dangerous due to weather or unexpected trail conditions. If you are new to hiking and the great outdoors it's always a good idea to go with a guide or a more experienced companion.
And remember - give the wildlife some space, leave no trace, go quietly and enjoy it out there!
A word on drones - I know how annoying it is to hear a drone whizzing about when you are trying to enjoy the peace and solitude of wild places. I'm also aware of the potential to disturb wildlife with them. I always avoid flying the drone when there are other hikers around. It's one of the reasons I tend to hike at less popular times of day and in mid-week and I avoid using the drone if I do see others nearby. I never fly a drone towards wildlife or where birds are likely to be nesting.
