During the semester break in Febuary 2023 I got the spontaneous chance to play the organ at Brixen im Thale in Tyrol, Austria. I recorded some pieces on this beautiful instrument, but due to the lack of time I couldn't try all the stops in detail and had to record the pieces in the limited time frame of around 45mins.
In this video I'm playing a Chorale Prelude on "Ach Herr, mich armen Sünder", which uses the same melody as "O sacred heart now wounded" by Johann Ludwig Krebs, who also is a jubilee composer of 2023.
Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713-1780) is famously known for being Johann Sebastian Bach's favourite organ student - rightly so. He studied 9 years with Bach until Bach's death and later worked as the cathedral organist at St. Mary's Church in Zwickau. Other places of his activity were Zeitz and Altenburg. Krebs' organ works consits of 109 pieces (chorale preludes, toccatas, fugues, preludes etc.). His style has many things in common with Bach's, but Krebs sounds a bit slimmer due to the advent of the rococo style.
Brixen im Thale is located near Kitzbühel in Tyrol, Austria. The organ of St. Mary's parish church was built in 2001 by Orgelbau Pirchner and consists of 22 stops anlongside Hauptwerk (1st manual), Rückpositiv (2nd manual) and Pedal. The organ case dates back into the 1780s.
