The Maine State Disc Golf Championship Tournament is underway.
Around 300 of the best disc golfers not only from Maine, but from around the world, even as far away as Iceland, Norway and California, will be competing for pro and amateur titles.
The tournament is three days long and taking place at two courses.
Discs will be flying around at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester Friday through Sunday.
There will be $30,000 up for grabs at this tour stop.
It's a sport that's been around for a long time, but it's just getting more popular every year.
“There was this thing called the Maine Tour, which kind of got disc golf started in Maine,” Bittersweet Disc Golf Owner Ryan Bourque said. “And so it started with just weekly tournaments all across the state, and the turnout grew from 12 players an event to max capacity of like 100 for an event."
“So we have 270 competitors that are going to be split, some playing at Pineland Farms and some split at Bittersweet Ridge,” Lewiston disc golfer James White said. “There is definitely great players for the level of skill.”
