The news that Tesla has launched a new version of the Model Y electric crossover in several European countries is quite exciting for EV enthusiasts. The Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) offers a maximum travel distance of 372 miles (600 kilometers) on a full charge based on the WLTP standard, making it a great option for those who prioritize range. It provides 41 miles more range than the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) version and costs €6,000 less in Germany.

The new Model Y LR RWD starts at €48,990 in Germany, placing it just above the entry-level rear-wheel drive model, which costs €4,000 less. It is worth noting that the updated Model 3 with all-wheel drive and a long-range battery pack has an advertised range of 18 miles more than the new Model Y trim, but costs €3,000 more.

Energy consumption for the Model Y Long Range RWD is listed as 23.9 kWh/100 miles (14.9 kWh/100 km) according to Tesla's official post, while the German website lists it as 24.9 kWh/100 miles (15.5 kWh/100 km). This makes it one of the most efficient electric SUVs in Europe.

Currently, the new long-range RWD trim can be ordered in 19 European countries, including Germany, Austria, and Spain, among others. However, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands are notably absent from the list.

In the United States, only the all-wheel drive version of the long-range Model Y is available, which starts at $49,990 and has an EPA-rated range of 310 miles on a full charge. Plans to introduce a long-range RWD version in the U.S. were initially proposed three years ago but were ultimately canceled.

Overall, the Model Y Long Range RWD offers a great combination of range, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness for European customers, adding another strong option to Tesla's EV lineup.
