Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Is this live? Is it real?
Yes, this is a real, live view of the airport.
When do you stream? When is flight tracking active?
We're here streaming almost every day. Flight tracking (where the camera zooms in and follows the planes as they come in for a landing) starts a couple hours after sunrise and ends around sunset. After sunset and in the early morning hours, the system goes into night mode where the camera is either stationary or roaming slowly around the airport.
Where are the cameras located?
At the top of the Eiffel Tower at Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Or maybe not. (It's an undisclosed location near the airport.)
Who's running the camera?
It is an automated camera system controlled by a computer almost all of the time.
Why don't you have a host talking to us?
Voice-over commentary is mostly unnecessary because flight information is displayed on the screen. Also, any commentator would have to talk over the air traffic control audio. Many of our viewers prefer listening to the ATC without interruption.
How do you get the air traffic control audio?
It comes from a radio scanner. We scan the two tower frequencies that are active at Harry Reid International Airport.
Is this legal?
Yes. In the US it is legal to listen to air traffic control. It's also legal to show events at the airport that are visible to the public.
What cameras/equipment/software do you use?
It's a proprietary system we developed. No further details are available.
The video looks blurry. Help?
Sometimes YouTube will automatically downgrade the video quality of your stream to save bandwidth. Check your YouTube settings (the little gear icon in the video window) and make sure that the maximum resolution (720p) is selected.
How long have you been doing this?
We started streaming in November 2021 and have been online almost every day since then.
How busy is this airport?
In 2021, Las Vegas was the 10th busiest airport in the world by passenger volume and 7th in the number of takeoffs and landings. (https://aci.aero/2022/04/11/the-top-10-busiest-airports-in-the-world-revealed/)
What airplanes will I see here?
In Las Vegas we see lots of these aircraft: Boeing 737, 757, 767, Airbus A319, A320 and A321.
We also see some of these aircraft: Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus A330, A340, A350, Embraer, Dassault Falcon and even the occasional Gulfstream.
We only occasionally see 747s or 777s during daylight hours.
Do you show any Airbus A380s?
No. They do not come to Las Vegas, unfortunately.
Why isn't this airport called McCarran anymore?
The airport's official name changed to Harry Reid International Airport at the end of 2021.

The air traffic controllers talk fast and are hard to understand. Help?
Air traffic control can be hard to understand until you become familiar with it. One tip that can make the controllers much more understandable is to slow the stream down to 0.75x speed in your YouTube settings. For further help, see our posted guide to air traffic control jargon (in development -- check back later).
