Small pelagic fish are the unsung heroes of the ocean. Fast growing and short lived, they underpin marine food webs and support livelihoods from the frozen Southern Ocean to the North Atlantic.

But small pelagic fish and the industry are facing unprecedented challenges. Climate change is affecting habitats and distribution patterns, alongside increased human consumption. The growing demand for farmed fish and aquafeed globally – most of which is produced using small pelagic fish – is also increasing pressure on their populations.

The Marine Stewardship Council is issuing a new briefing paper on how to sustainably manage, catch, source and sell small pelagic fish. This webinar, held on 17th March 2021, reflects on these insights.

Hear from industry leaders and experts as they discuss and debate how to maintain sustainable small pelagic fish populations, while still meeting demand for farmed fish.
