The Department of Chemistry, JMI, New Delhi organized a Grand 9 days long Indo-US Webinar (2 days from June 1-2, 2021) & Lecture Series (7 days from June 3-9, 2021) on Advanced Functional Materials for Renewable Energy Application under the aegis of SPARC scheme of Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. The aim of the Indo-US Webinar & Lecture Series was to highlight the utilization of advanced functional nanomaterials to resolve the current burning issues majorly on hydrogen/green/renewable energy and environmental remediation. The Webinar gathered a mini galaxy of eminent scientists. The Webinar was inaugurated and presided over by Prof. Najma Akhtar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, JMI. Vice Chancellor has highly appreciated the initiative taken by the Department to gather renowned dignitaries as speakers in this Webinar as well as appraised the efforts of faculty members for quality research and academic outputs. Scientific address was given by an extremely distinguished and renowned scientist Prof. D.D. Sarma, IISc Bangalore. He emphasized upon the need to adopt an interdisciplinary approach towards the design and development of Advanced Functional Materials. The Convener, Prof. Tokeer Ahmad presented the Indo-US Webinar Report and introduce the speakers. Prof. Nahid Nishat, Head, Department of Chemistry presented the welcome address, Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir, Dean, F/o Natural Sciences presented the faculty remarks and Dr. Nazim Husain Al-Jafri, Registrar, JMI presented the administrative remarks about the structure and growth of Jamia Millia Islamia. The plenary lecture was given by notable scientist of the country Prof. D. D. Sarma and the 6 keynote lectures were delivered by eminent speakers Prof. A. K. Ganguli from IIT Delhi, Prof. Arun Chattopadhyay from IIT Guwahati, Prof. A.K. Tyagi from BARC Mumbai, Prof. K.V. Ramanujachary from Rowan University, Prof. Sarbajit Banerjee from Texas A&M University, Prof. Yuanbing Mao from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA. A huge number 1540 participants including UG, PG & PhD students and faculty members were registered for the Indo-US Webinar and Lecture Series. The valedictory address for the two days webinar was given by Prof. A.K. Ganguli & Prof. K.V. Ramanujachary who congratulated the organizers for making the event a grand success. The Lecture Series started and continued during June 3-9, 2021 where special lectures were delivered by foreign speakers Prof. Sarbajit Banerjee and Prof. Yuanbing Mao on different aspects of advanced nanomaterials for device fabrication, energy generation and storage. All the lectures were well enjoyed and conscientiously attended by the participants which is reflected by receipt of over 1000+ feedbacks from the participants. The final valedictory address at the end was given by the Dr. Nazim Husain Al-Jafri, Registrar Jamia Millia Islamia as the Chief Guest of the function. The program report and welcome address was presented by Prof. Nahid Nishat, Chairperson & Head, Department of Chemistry. The special address about the program and collaborative research was delivered by the foreign experts and guest of honors of program Prof. Sarbajit Banerjee, Texas A&M University and Prof. Yuanbing Mao, IIT Chicago, USA. The program was conducted by Dr. Ufana Riaz and the formal vote of thank was presented by Prof. Tokeer Ahmad, Convener & Coordinator of Indo-US Webinar & Lecture Series. Prof. Najma Akhtar congratulated the Team of Indo-US Webinar & Lecture Series & the Department of Chemistry for successfully completing this scientific program.
