#VanLife Road Trip Greece to North Cape and Back - Part 3 of 7

The week started in Lillehammer, Norway with some very sad news. We learned of the passing of Jaco’s Ouma. We take all the wonderful memories of her with us forward. After traveling North for almost 4000km’s since we left home in Greece 2 weeks ago, we turned the wheels West for the first time. The reason for the deviation from the endevour North, was to experience what Norway is so famous for, amongst other things, their Fjords. We headed to Geiranger Fjord with high expectations. What we experienced along the way cannot be described in words - scenery so simply spectacular as I have never seen before anywhere during our travels! It was like driving through a fairytale wonderland. Geiranger Fjord truly exceeded all expectations, and we decided to stay a day longer to reflect on the loss in the family - it could not be in a more perfect setting. We turned back North and headed to Trondheim, also a beautiful city. From here we went to Grong and were treated to a local folklore live music festival late into the night. The next day we entered the Arctic Circle and did our first “wild camping” on a beautiful spot near Saltstraumen. Despite the wind and cold wet weather, still a great experience. Our search for Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) had to wait a little longer. The next day it was time for another Norwegian highlight: Lofoten Islands. A short drive from Lodigen, where our ferry arrived, a campsite awaited surrounded by snow capped mountain peaks. The weather started to turn for the better and it was time to tune into a variety of forecast apps for the green lights dancing in the sky. We decided to make it a late night waiting in anticipation… Just after 23:00, and wishing upon a shooting star earlier the evening LOL, magic! A glimse of “green” appeared in the skies out of nowhere, and the four of us couldn’t believe what we have been talking about for so long finally became a reality. It wasn’t the best display on record, but just made us more excited for the coming days and weeks. We ended the week on Lofoten; regarded by some as the most beautiful place on the planet. That evening as the clouds cleared, another display of Northern Lights. Awesome! Our journey North continues…
